Our special excursion:
“The Pearls of the east coast”
Discover two beautiful monasteries
and two of the most picturesque villages of the island!
The drive along the east coast and towards the south will first lead you to the women’s monastery Ipseni, which is surrounded by nature, not too far from the village Lardos. It possesses a beautiful inner courtyard with lemon trees.
You will then discover the impressive, white village of Lindos, which has been listed as a preserved site and has kept its ancient charm. Above it, the acropolis and its ruins of the Athena Lindia Temple are absolutely remarkable.
The view which offers itself from the top of the acropolis is something really special: you will discover the small Saint-Paul’s harbour and the glittering white village with its labyrinth of narrow and paved streets. After coming down from the acropolis, you will have time to visit the church dating back to the 13th century.
Leaving Lindos behind you, you will drive again towards the north and reach the villages Malona and Massari, which are surrounded by orange and lemon plantations. From there, a street leads through orchards to the small monastery of Kamiri, which is dedicated to the Archangel Michael. It is said that this church accomplishes miracles. One of these miracles is being celebrated every year on the 6th of September.
The inner courtyard of the monastery is idyllic. It is full of flowers and framed by rooms for pilgrims who wish to spend the night there. It is an ideal place to have a picnic. Enjoy the cold and light Greek lunch, which will be organized by the driver and the guide.
If you wish to refresh yourself after lunch, you can have a short swim at the sandy beach of Agathi or at the pebble beach of Charaki.
On the way back, you will have the opportunity to make the acquaintance of the village Archangelos. It is still nowadays a rather traditional village which possesses a beautiful old part with narrow streets and a white church.
